Drag culture arguably dates as far back as antiquity when men traditionally played the roles of women in theatre. The word "drag" is derived from the slang term for women's dress that male actors wear on stage. Drag shows are considered to be a unique form of art and don't necessarily imply or include gay culture, transvestitism or cross dressing. Instead, drag queens are unique intersexual personalities created by individual artists. Several drag queens have reached pop-star status including Hedda Lettuce (Steven Polito) who is known for singing in his own voice during drag shows and Miss Understood (Alex Heimberg), a New York drag queen who has appeard on television and in movies and even started a drag queen booking agency.

These two sets of images are from a drag paper doll book for those aspiring drag queen artists.
